How to avoid burnout when learning English?

When learning something we can sometimes face the problem of burning out, especially when we don't see the results right away.

However, I have some tips to help you with that.

Step 1: You need to understand the concept of burnout.

Burnout is a condition of extreme and chronic stress-related mental, bodily, and emotional exhaustion.

But it doesn't mean that something is wrong with you. It's okay to feel stressed and tired sometimes.

Step 2: Think about the causes of burnout.

If you combine studying with work it can be exhausting, and that's true. Probably you lack support or recognition in the studying process from your friends and family.

High expectations from others and yourself, misunderstandings, and a lack of control over your studying curriculum can also cause stress.

Step 3: Set realistic goals.

"I should be on C1 level in three months" - such goals can put a lot of pressure on you. When studying English, make sure your expectations are reasonable.

Break down your goals into smaller, achievable tasks.

For example, "Learn 10 new words this week" or "Study and practice new grammar rules by the end of the month".

Step 4: Take breaks.

Take regular intervals when learning English. It can be helpful to spend a little time each day unwinding and relaxing.

Watch a movie without subtitles and don't even think about checking the new word you hear, believe me, nothing bad will happen. Lay back and enjoy the movie.

Step 5: Change up your routine.

Mix up your routine with some unusual English activities. Try listening to a new song, or playing a game in English. There are plenty of ways to have fun with English.

Step 6: Get support.

Reach out to friends or family for support.

Maybe one of your friends is having a hard time learning English too. Ask for advice or help with your problem.

Step 7: Reward yourself.

Reward yourself for each small step you take. Celebrate your success, no matter what. All your accomplishments are worth it, even the small ones.

I truly hope you will find this article helpful and use some of the tips.

Don't put pressure on yourself, it's absolutely okay to feel tired or lack enthusiasm when studying something!

Just don't give up and keep trying!
